Thank you for stopping by! I'm Helen -- a student by day and a workaholic by night. I started TheCoffeeMonsterzCO as a 15 year old high school student who wanted nothing more than to bring joy to others with my artwork. I knew art was my passion because it was the only thing I wanted to do when I had free time. Staying up until midnight crunching out an essay for school was agonizing, but finishing an illustration at four in the morning? Time passes and I don't notice.
Fun Fact: I saved up $90 to purchase a Wacom drawing tablet when I was 12, and it is the same Wacom tablet I still use now to do my design work. I refuse to replace it until I literally cannot draw a line with it anymore.
I started TheCoffeeMonsterzCO not as a business, but rather as a place for me to share my bullet journal spreads and doodles. I quickly became overwhelmed with the influx of requests for tutorials on how I make my icon doodles and handlettering, so I spent my winter break compiling an EBook filled with hundreds of doodles. I called it "My Little Doodle Book", and it's actually still available for sale today! This is how I funded the materials to start my physical shop.
Fun Fact: I was a crafty kid so I built the shelves for our inventory out of foam board purchased at Dollarama. Since then, I have rebuilt the shelves but I still kept my first shelf...despite it being completely asymmetrical and near total collapse.
In 2018, I graduated from high school and moved across Canada from British Columbia to Ontario for university. I'm currently a third-year student at the University of Toronto! It has been a challenge balancing my new life responsibilities with the shop, but I have found happiness in staying busy. I'm not sure what will happen when I graduate, but I know I will eventually figure it out!
Fun Fact: I really do not like cheese. I'm not even sure if I'm lactose intolerant, but I just do not like cheese. No cheesecake. No cheese pizza. Just stay away please. Thank you.
Although there has been many changes in my life -- growing up, moving cities, starting university -- the one thing that stayed constant has been your support. Wherever I went, you were there with me cheering me on through comments and messages. I have built so many incredible relationships with people from countries I dream of visiting and people who live just down the street in my hometown. I appreciate each and every one of you, and I give you my sincere promise that I will continue trying my best at everything I do. As always, love you lots and hope you have a joyful day!
